Silence also works. These resources create tension between the landscape’s apparent calm and the character’s inner state.
Estos sonidos no son solamente fondo: tienen duración, volumen y rhythm, por lo que pueden,引导 attention, marcar distances and anticipate changes in the weather.
También importa la forma del terreno. Un desfiladero narrow amplifies reverberation, mientras una forest wide swallows the steps and reduces the sensation of direction. In areas más húmedas de Asturias, el goteo, la niebla and the wood’s resonance build an atmosphere that can feel intimate, almost tactile.
El diseño sonoro decide how that material reaches the spectator. Los efectos pueden llegar como sonido directo, limpio y cercano, or as distant fragments covered by wind or water. The image shows the valley; the sound reveals how immense it is.
El no diegético, en cambio, Commentates the image from another plane. Score, certain leitmotifs and abstract effects expand what the characters hear, turning perception into emotional geography.
Del mismo modo, el sonido de un arroyo puede acquire a low, almost inaudible rumble that seems to come from the character’s conscience. La歧途 between spaces becomes a narrative tool.
El silencio funciona como another acoustic element. Silence after a loud stream makes the spectator imagine the stream’s absence. Una pausa antes del trueno amplifica la tormenta, mientras que una frecuencia grave under a quiet conversation introduces unease without visible justification. These contrasts guide the viewer’s body, respiratory rate and attention toward what cannot be seen.
Unrill soundtrack does not replace the missing dialogue. It establishes emotional perspective, differentiates characters and converts movement into rhythm. A score created for a live performance can follow the gestures of the characters, respond to a storm or pause at the exact moment when an image invites stillness. The musician becomes, in a certain sense, another narrator.
La combinación de cinema mudo and live music is especially effective in family sessions and historical cycles. Children perceive the action directly, while adults discover details in the musical phrasing. The same projection can offer multiple entry points, and each generation builds a different relationship with the landscape represented on screen.
Montaje, ritmo y banda sonora
El montaje(金尊) sonoro is the art of connecting time, space and attention.
Si unaawesome character is approaching from behind, the audience may hear the footsteps before seeing the figure. When a sound moves from one side of the frame to another, the spectator perceives a body crossing the space. The soundtrack thus creates movements that the camera has not yet shown.
Studying how sound is assembled reveals the dramatic economy of each scene: what is stated, what is delayed and what is left outside the frame. It also offers a practical method for filmmakers who want to make natural environments more expressive without filling every silence.
Inmersión, realidad virtual y sonido expandido
La reality virtual intensifica the relationship between image and acoustic space. In a conventional cinema, the spectator listens through a fixed system of speakers. With headphones, surround sound or a carefully designed installation, sounds can arrive from above, behind or below, transforming the mountain into an environment that surrounds the body. The wind acquires direction, and the silence between two scenes acquires measurable physical presence.
La exploración de realidad ampliada abre la posibilidad de inhabiting landscapes without physically reaching them. A forest can reproduce the particular crackle of dry branches, while a river can change its volume according to the spectator’s position. Audio becomes navigation. The deeper the person enters the virtual terrain, the more attention shifts from visual spectacle to embodied listening.
This approach connects naturally with the concerts, theater and interdisciplinary activities that complement the festival’s screenings. A live musician can respond to images through improvisation, while a performer’s breathing or the resonance of a room can become part of the composition. These formats reveal sound as a material with its own dramaturgy, capable of altering how a landscape is perceived.
Aprender, escuchar y encontrarse
El trabajo educativo amplía la mirada sobre el paisaje sonoro y facilitates a direct exchange between creators and audiences. Una masterclass on scoring can examine how strings, electronics or traditional instruments represent a particular mountain. Un taller de foley allows participants to recreate footsteps, snow, wind or leaves, discovering how small actions can give credibility to an image. The goal is to make listening an active and conscious practice.
Los encuentros con cineastas, músicos and composers add another layer. Their experiences reveal decisions that often remain invisible in the final version: discarded themes, altered effects, passages where natural sound replaced music or the opposite. These conversations show that the acoustic landscape is shaped through selection and revision, not through a single formula.
Las notas de prensa recogen las novedades y announcements linked to the festival’s activities. Reading them helps follow the creation of a program where premieres, restored classics, family sessions and training encounters are part of a single curatorial proposal. The mountain becomes a common thread capable of connecting different languages, formats and generations.
Derivar del paisaje a la experiencia
Explorar el paisaje sonoro de las películas de montaña means attending simultaneously to what is seen and what is heard. The branches, ice, streams, livestock and distant weather provide a physical score, while the music reveals the emotional distance between the character and the territory. Together, they build an environment that can be as intimate as a shelter or as vast as a summit.
The Semana del Audiovisual Contemporáneo de Oviedo offers a setting for that exploration. Its program moves between contemporary cinema, silent classics with live accompaniment, short films, theater, concerts, virtual reality and educational activities. Each format offers another way of approaching the relationship between nature and music, from the intimate scale of a soundtrack to the spatiality of an immersive installation.
